Living Billboard
Who is allowed to speak in public space—and what would you say if the billboard belonged to you?
Living Billboard gives people a public platform for their own messages.
The project has appeared as a digital screen, a large physical billboard and an inflatable speech bubble. Each version uses the visual language of advertising but places its power in the hands of the public.
The billboard provides the frame. What appears on it changes with the place and the people who take part.
Selected versions
Living Billboard — Tarup-Davinde, 2026
A large physical billboard remained in the landscape for two months. Young local hosts took responsibility for activating it, inviting people to create messages, performances and other interventions.
The structure stayed the same, while its content and meaning changed with the people using it.
Presented at Tarup-Davinde under Pelle Brage’s name.
Living Billboard — Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen, 2021
Living Billboard occupied a digital advertising screen in Copenhagen’s main square for two weeks.
During opening hours, visitors could draw on iPads inside our small 10-foot container office and place their messages on the screen. Small pigeon sculptures were placed around the square to attract attention, and free coffee offered another reason to stop and participate.
The collected contributions continued in a loop 24 hours a day, creating a changing public sculpture and an alternative to the commercial advertising surrounding it.
Listed as Brage & Co., in collaboration with Another Public.
Inflatable Speech Bubble — 2020–present
A mobile, hand-sewn inflatable speech bubble that has travelled between different public spaces.
Using large plywood letters, people can compose words and collective statements across its surface. Wherever it goes, it turns public expression into something physical.
Let’s write something together.
